Chapter 196

Three hours later they were all back there waiting to see Pryag, but from a restricted area, he was still off limits and was under surveillance. He looked tired and lifeless; the machines and wires that were hooked on and indicated that he was alive; only thing that gave everyone hope that he will be back with them as he was. The room was gloomy, with a light that was very low and made it look like death was waiting for its signal. The sheets were white so white indicating the representation of an angel before death. The blanket that covered him was green, the same green the nurse that passed by was wearing.

The tubes that were connected to him and the wires that were hugging the machine added a punch of fear in the viewer’s eyes. Everyone one who has the luxury to look through the glass windows did feel a chill through their spine. If one didn’t feel any it was either they had such high hopes or they worked there. The place had an effect of breaking the spirit of even the strongest person. Chari and his wife seemed quiet fine looking through the glass window but she decided to wait since she had read too much about in novels and she was troubled with all emotions and decided to wait for him to be moved out to a better surroundings

Chapter 195

Her thoughts slowly drifted and she started thinking about all the men in her life, in one way or other the ones that had impacted her childhood, her career, her image and her life. It all started with her dad, he knew her potential so very well, he knew what she was capable of, he gave her the liberty to explore but with certain limitations, she has to complete her education, he gave her and her brother some money with challenges, an important lesson she had learned from that. Then there was her brother, a charming, handsome guy who knows is way with women. He was her competition, from her childhood, he taught her how to handle a challenge, starting from a game of scrabble to coming up with the best interior designer for the home.

Then there was John, her first crush, her popularity challenger, one who challenged her academically. Chari, a second father to her, a mentor, showed him love can conquer anything, a man of wisdom and truth. Pryag, someone who had touched her life in way she had never thought of, smart, compassionate, committed, devoted and a man with a gentle heart and one who is in love with her. Now his life is hanging in a thread, every ounce of his energy, he used it to convey how he felt about her before he was taken into the surgery. The thought of Pryag, brought her back to reality and all emotions started flooding and she excused herself and walked towards the bathroom.

Chapter 194

She opened up her large suede fringe tote that had double handles with a 9 inch drop with intricate topstitching details and fringe at front back and sides with a top snap closure and a front open pocket in the shade of whisky. The swingy suede fringe added a graceful movement to this generously sized tote when moved that was designed by Lucky Brand Jeans. One couldn’t miss the fact that it was imported.

She reached onto one of its two interior zip pocket and opened it up and picked up her elegant navy blue blackberry that was sleek in its appearance. It was not up to her style but she had purchased it since it was a performance–driven smart phone that was customized to her needs by her provider. She played with the trackball navigation and a new backlit qwerty keyboard came to life indicating that there was a voice mail. She hardly used its microSD expandable memory support and its media player.

She was surprised to see that the message was from her brother. It was quiet a long message summarizing where he was and what he was doing along with his enquires about Pryag’s surgery. Her thoughts were suddenly distracted and she started to wonder if he was still with Kathy or not. Her instinct told her that he was, for this time, she could clearly see that he was in love, for the very first time in his life there was a change.

Chapter 193

For the first time in that day, she realized she was hungry and she also realized that the pressure she had been feeling under her shoulders had released on its own. She gave a sigh of relief and a smiled slowly peeked out from the corner of her lips. She could see the same from Chari’s wife’s face; it was a little more pronounced. She assured Chari who still seemed a little concerned that everything will be fine by giving him a hug of reassurance. Pryag’s brother-in-law suggested that they all get something to eat, and Diya agreed to his suggestion. Chari nodded and persuaded his wife who was still reluctant to leave the room “I know you love him very much and believe me nothing is going to happen in 10 minutes. We can leave a message with the nurse, letting them know that we will be at the cafeteria. Don’t worry dear!”

Silence prevailed until they reached the cafeteria. Since Chari and his wife won’t even eat eggs it seemed to be quiet a tough choice. In the end they settled for 2 garden salads and a couple of bean burritos with some orange juice and water for Chari and his wife, an egg sandwich with coffee for Diya and grilled vegetables on a parmesan basil tomato wrap with Mexican rice and a coke for Pryag’s brother-in-law. They didn’t really have to find a place to sit and eat, since the cafeteria was relatively empty, couple of people here and there. In less than fifteen minutes all their plates were empty except Chari’s wife’s who had difficulty eating the food. Half her mind was with her son; she was not used to eating anything outside, she always prepared and carried food where ever she went. She ate something to fill her stomach and finished her orange juice.

Chapter 192

She was lucky she didn’t trip over and fall. When Chari was just about tell her what was going on, they were interrupted by his wife, who had seen Diya walk over and had followed her. Her eyes were wide open and looked very eager to find out what was going on. But she expressed her eagerness in the form of questions which felt like bullets being emitted from an automatic rifle.

Chari held her by her right arm and tried to calm her down and she finally slowed down. It felt as if the waves that were continuously knocking down the sand castle that was being built on the shore, somehow suddenly stopped. But she knew that it would last only for a couple of minutes unless she starts crying, which would be completely different.

Pryag’s brother-in-law broke the 2 second silence by indicating that they have completed the surgery and now they are in the process of closing everything with stitches and he will remain in there for a few more hours since they want to make sure his vital signs are back and are completely normal. He estimated that it would take about 4 hours for him to be out of the surgical room.
