Chapter 74

Even though it was a Sunday there was pretty much the usual traffic and it took them almost an hour to get there, luckily finding a parking spot was much quicker and it was almost 9.40 AM. She walked towards the corridor and he signed that he shall catch up with her in a couple of minutes. By the time he caught up with her after getting the parking ticket, she had already spoken to the receptionist and had gotten a scoop of what had happened last night and was ready to go in to see him. He sensed that she didn’t know for sure but everything had gone smooth.

Pryag was resting was not hooked onto to any machine, just an IV running through, and looked like he had had a good nights sleep. Both of them walked in and he was quiet happy to see her and seemed quiet refreshed. They hugged each other and she threw a few questions at him, and she had not realized that she had not introduced him to Akshar until he had interrupted with the smile asking her, if she would like to introduce her friend she had brought along.

The two men shook hands and introduced themselves and Pryag gave them the good news that it was not malignant with a smile. She was delighted and gave a peck on his cheek and before he could continue Dr.Collins who looked amazingly fresh for someone who had worked a night shift walked in and enquired how Pryag was doing that morning. She added that Dr.Martin who is the lead surgeon and the head of the department will be meeting with him shortly to discuss the procedures further.

Chapter 73

He woke up at 6.00 Am, hurried through his morning routines and walked up to her room and knocked on her door and after a couple of minutes she opened the door and looked a lot better that she did yesterday. He felt her eyes had regained the brightness and asked her if she would like some breakfast. She gave an immediate reply that she was starving and would love some breakfast and went in to freshen up and he walked towards the kitchen to find out what was out there and he didn’t want to wake his sister up.

She was surprised to find a toiletry kit just like the one that is usually provided on the business class flights and she took full advantage of it. After brushing her teeth, she washed her face with a face wash paper towel that she carries with her all the time and combed her hair, and slightly powdered her face. She would have preferred a nice shower, but that was not possible since she had no cloths to change and had slept in the cloths she was wearing last night, a jean and a top. She made the bed and opened the curtains to let the light in and also to see if it was still raining and how was the day.

She felt well refreshed and the thought of visiting the hospital and expecting the results from the doctor, the prognosis, she just didn’t want to think about it until she got there. She prayed to god in her mind, ‘please let everything be ok’ and walked towards the stairs. When she stepping down the stairs, the aroma of the food from the kitchen aggravated her hunger and she realized that she had hardly eaten the whole of yesterday. She was totally surprised and delighted when Akshar filled her plate with a toast, scrambled eggs and a glass of orange juice.

Chapter 72

He leaned towards her and offered her a napkin to wipe her tears and later handed over a box of tissues. He knew she was in pain and he realized that she had bundled everything inside her heart and she needed to let it out. He felt bad, but knew he can’t do anything but give her a shoulder to cry. He moved closer to her and hugged her and tried to console her saying that everything was going to be fine. His phone rang and he knew it was his sister and she must be worried. Assured that they are doing fine and will be there in another ten to fifteen minutes he hung up and looked at her to make sure she was alright.

She wiped her tears and nodded and he pulled out of the parking lot and within fifteen minutes they were at his sister’s driveway. Looking at her face his sister realized that she was not in good shape and showed her to the guest room and asked him to make sure that she settles comfortably and waited downstairs for him in the kitchen, warming up a glass of milk for him. He came downstairs and briefed her about the scenario and added that he shall be taking her to the hospital tomorrow morning.

As he had expected his niece was very disappointed but Mike Mouse cartoon came through and she went to bed without much fuss. He promised that he will make it up to her some other time. He drank the milk is sister had given him and decided to settle on the couch for the night not wanting to disturb anyone the next morning since they had to leave early t the hospital. He closed his eyes, wondered how lucky Pryag must be to have someone s caring and loving and wonderful in his life, who is willing to stay with him every step of the way. Felt a little jealous of Pryag and wondered if he could ever find a girl like that and dozed off.

Chapter 71

The ride back to his sisters was very quiet. It was pouting cats and dogs and it was almost 10.00 PM when they were getting close to his sisters home. Akshar had called in his sister earlier since he had met Diya at the hospital. He knew his niece will be quiet disappointed but his sister would understand. He had called in and told her that he will be bringing a friend along who needed a good night sleep and had briefed about Diya. Dr.Collins had spoken to Diya and Akshar they they wanted to keep him overnight and run some tests, and Akshar had convinced Diya to come with him to his sisters since she had hardly slept the previous night nor had eaten anything good.

They both had got some soup and a sandwich from the cafeteria and she had forced it into her system and realizing that she was exhausted, unable to argue with him had accepted his offer to spend the night at his sisters. It had started pouring and she sat there silently while he drove and to break the silence he had switched on the music, he had no idea what CD he had pooped in last night and Colonial Cousins was playing. She was totally quiet and he was finding it really hard to drive and luckily the rain was starting to cool off and the visibility was getting better and it felt like the sky was clearing.

“Something in my heart just cry, you may never know the reason why”, Hariharan and Less were singing and tears started to roll down her eyes. She didn’t want to cry, definitely not in front of Akshar, whom she hardly knew, but the pain and the doctors wanting him to keep him overnight, she felt a chill through her spine and her heart was heavy and the song, as if someone knew exactly how she felt and created it for her, she couldn’t control it anymore, he tears were turning into a cry and Akshar pulled over the car into a parking lot and it started to pour outside and inside the car.
