Chapter 12

He was impressed at how much she was interested and left the room without disturbing them. She had learnt a lot in the last couple of months, he felt he can give her a task to work on just to challenge her and also he had too much on his plate to get done since he was taking up a new job overseas and had agreed to finish up his current projects. Helping him out, she had learned that first one should do a project inventory; then you need to identify projects that match strategic objectives and prioritize and categorize your projects.

She had also learned the hurdles to portfolio management. Taking power away from business leaders accustomed to calling the shots will not always go smoothly; Getting good information isn't easy and it is always hard to make tough decisions on whether to undertake or cancel projects; It's an additional time constraint on busy executives. She had come up with an outline for the project she had been working on and was quiet impressive. The one think that she had not discussed in her profile was that sometime you have to abandon a project; she didn’t like that idea or was not open to it or maybe it’s not her. It was excellent for an amateur considering she had spent just two months leaning it and this was her first portfolio!

It was time for him to leave for Germany, she hugged him in the airport and he gave a peck on her cheek, he bit farewell to his family and was about to enter the checkpoint. Suddenly he walked back and asked her “why don’t you start a small business? Think about it” and took off. She was speechless; she didn’t know if she was good at it she was just twenty one years old! Will I be able to make it? I hardly know anything about business, starting my own! She was not sure, but her mind had already started planning her future when she had spoken to her brother over the phone for a couple of hours. “Excuse me, is this seat taken?” she was brought back to reality and realized she was at the symposium when a stranger asked her.
