Chapter 36

She was almost there, and the taxi driver knew the place very well and it was a lot easier to get there. The driver had mentioned that is the place usually these events take place and had engaged in a conversation with her all the way. She ignored what he was saying and just smiled to make him happy; she felt that he just wanted someone to talk to. She could see cars pulling in and knew she had arrived. Men in suits and blazers and women all dressed up were getting down from their vehicle and she paid the cab driver and was about to open the door, an attendant had rushed over and had already opened the door for her and was greeting her. His eyes were bright and he smiled warmly.

She remembered the look when she walked down the stairs from her room, almost everyone in the room looked at her and she had felt a little uncomfortable, and also thought she was overdressed. The receptionist had called a cab for her and he had walked her to the cab and had opened the door for her. She thanked him and walked towards the entrance, but could still see him staring at her. She ignored him, bore a smile on her lips and walked in. She noticed everybody she had seen earlier that day had a guest; she remembered that her invitation said that you can bring a guest along for the evening.

She was greeted with a rose by the receptionist and showed her the way and gave her an agenda summarizing the events for the evening. She thanked her and walked in; she didn’t really find anyone she remembered, she walked over to the bar and got a glass of coke and the waiter had almost poured the coke all over the counter looking at her. She smiled at him and started looking for a place to sit. She noticed a few men in the room were looking at her, so were some women.
